Dirck Jacobsz. Roebaert, die in de vijftiende eeuw eigenaar was van een huis op de hoek van deze straat en de Wilhelminastraat (die toen Vogelenzang heette). De naam van de straat luidde eeuwenlang: Robaarsteeg. Na de renovatie van de straat werd de naam op verzoek van de bewoners bij raadsbelsuit van 21 november 1977 gewijzigd in Robaarstraat, omdat men vond dat het woord ‘steeg’ een negatieve bijklank had.
