Deze kapel behoorde waarschijnlijk tot het daar eveneens staande Lazarushuis, een gebouw waar lijders aan melaatsheid (lepra) werden verpleegd. Volgens De Lange van Wijngaerden bestond de kapel reeds in 1408. Zij werd in de zogenaamde Jonker Fransenoorlog, bij een mislukte poging om Gouda in te nemen, tijdens de winter van 1488/1489 door brand verwoest. De verering van Sint Job stamt uit de 14e eeuw, toen de Zuidelijke Nederlanden werden getroffen door pestepidemieën. Sint Job werd aangeroepen tegen zweren en andere huidziekten, waartegen gewijd Jobswater te krijgen was."@nl ;
