  gtm:genoemdNaar "Genoemd naar Pieter Wilhelmus Scharroo (1883 - 1963), een Nederlandse sportbestuurder. Scharroo was van 1904 tot 1940 werkzaam als kolonel bij de genie en enige jaren als leraar waterbouwkunde aan de Koninklijke Militaire Academie in Breda. In mei 1940 leidde hij de verdediging van Rotterdam. Na het Duitse bombardement op de stad gaf hij zich over. Scharroo vervulde diverse functies op sportgebied. Zo was hij voorzitter van de Nederlandsche Athletiek Unie, lid van het Nederlandsch Olympisch Comité en lid van het Internationaal Olympisch Comité. Hij was vicevoorzitter van het 'Comité 1928' dat de Olympische Spelen in Amsterdam organiseerde en werkte mee aan de totstandkoming van het Olympisch Stadion."@nl ;

  gtm:problematischeStraatnaam "Pieter Scharroo was tijdens de Duitse inval in mei 1940 de militair commandant van Rotterdam. Bij nader inzien wordt er door historici echter sterk getwijfeld of hij voor die cruciale taak wel de juiste man was. Inmiddels is gebleken dat zijn gedrag tijdens de Duitse Bezetting hem op kritiek kwam te staan. De straatnaam heeft door deze historische achtergrond een beladen betekenis gekregen en zou tegenwoordig mogelijk niet opnieuw worden gekozen."@nl ;
