In 1898 richtten de Goudse pottenbakker Adrianus Jonker en Egbert Estié uit Purmerend Gouda's eerste plateelfabriek ‘Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland, E. Estié & Co’ op. In 1903 werd B.J.C. Hoyng de nieuwe eigenaar en wijzigde de naam in ‘N.V. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland’. Later kreeg het bedrijf het predicaat ‘Koninklijk’. Het bedrijf trok de beste ontwerpers aan, leverde toonaangevende producten en had daardoor een groot aanzien in de Goudse plateel. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog nam de concurrentie van de andere Goudse aardewerkbedrijven toe en bracht de ontwikkeling van een nieuwe fabricagelijn, porselein, het bedrijf in de financiële problemen. In 1965 werd het bedrijf van de ene op de andere dag gesloten."@nl ;
