Volgens de traditie moest de vader de kandeel roeren met een pijpje kaneel, in aanwezigheid van de kraamvisite, waarbij hij een zijden mutsje met linten van de kraamvrouw droeg. Het ritueel moest de boze geesten bij moeder en kind verdrijven. De gekozen naam houdt waarschijnlijk verband met andere specerijen (kaneel, komijn, peper, rozemarijn, saffraan), waaraan straten in de omgeving hun naam ontlenen."@nl ;
