Het Clarissenklooster is in 1466 gesticht en volgde de regels van de heilige Clara, een volgelinge van Franciscus van Assisi. In 1475 gaf het stadsbestuur toestemming aan het klooster om op het eigen terrein tussen de Turfmarkt en de Nieuwehaven een kapel te bouwen. Die kapel is in 1480 ingewijd. Tijdens de Reformatie zijn de Clarissen uit het klooster gezet en werd het gebouw geplunderd. In 1590 is het hoofdgebouw van het klooster aan de Nieuwehaven in acht delen verkocht en werd sindsdien bewoond door particulieren. In 1690 is het hele gebouw afgebroken. Het terrein bleef in gebruik als stadstimmerwerf en brandweerkazerne."@nl ;
